Split Ticketing and Delay Repay: Can You Still Claim?

How to claim Delay Repay when you travel on split tickets, and which ticket the compensation is based on.

Split ticketing — buying several tickets for one journey — is permitted under the National Rail Conditions of Travel, as long as your train stops at the stations where the tickets change. You keep your Delay Repay rights.

Which ticket is compensated?

Delay is measured at your final destination. Most operators base compensation on the combined cost of all tickets for the journey, as long as you were on the train they show. Submit every ticket together in one claim with the operator responsible for the delay.

Missed connections

If a delay on the first leg makes you miss a train on the next ticket, you may travel on the next available service. Your delay is calculated against your originally planned arrival time.

How to claim

  1. Claim from the operator that caused the delay (or that operated your final train if unsure).
  2. Upload images of all tickets in the chain.
  3. Explain in the notes that you travelled on split tickets.

Calculate your refund by entering the total of all your tickets.
